Tablet Asus MeMO Pad 10 FHD: technical specifications, review, reviews
There is a lull in the digital gadget market with large screens: large manufacturers cannot, but rather, do not want to produce new and interesting models, preferring to polish the existing ones, that is, to carry out the usual rebranding. One of the clearest examples of such a policy is the third “Galaxy Tab” from Samsung, which, apart from the number in the title, did not really change anything in the “stuffing” or in the visual component. Only the price tag was increased.
Against the background of such an incomprehensible stagnation, the new 10-inch gadgets from Asus are like a breath of fresh air. First of all, the device is interesting for its matrix, as well as the screen resolution, but first things first.
So, the subject of today's review - Asus MeMO Pad FHD 10, a new tablet from a venerable brand. Consider the main characteristics of the device, its advantages and disadvantages, and also find out what users think about it and what feedback they leave.
The device comes in an attractive box in a brand-specific dark design.The front part shows the tablet itself in two perspectives - front and rear, and the rear part is reserved for a brief specification, which lists the most "tasty" characteristics of the Asus MeMO Pad FHD 10. At the ends you can see the icons of awards at some exhibitions, bar codes, labels , stickers and other dealer entourage.
It is evident that the manufacturer did not save on packaging - it is pleasant to hold it in hand The interior is ergonomically located around the perimeter of the box, and the accessories do not interfere with each other. Some users even throw out such beauty is a pity.
Contents of delivery:
- tablet "Asus";
- network charger;
- cable to synchronize with a PC;
- instruction (including in Russian);
- warranty card.
The package bundle is far from rich, but big brands have never spoiled their admirer with additional accessories in the kit. Therefore, the cover on the Asus MeMO Pad FHD 10, stand and other "chips" will have to be bought separately. But maybe it is for the better, because accessories of such a plan are an individual thing, as they say, to your taste and color, and any extra thing in the set adds significantly to the cost of the gadget.
The model turned out to be classic, that is, in the hands we hold a typical tablet from “Asus”, which the fans of the brand are accustomed to: strict, and at the same time calm design without any tricks and unusual inserts.
Almost the entire front of the device takes up a 10-inch screen. The frames around it seem a bit big, but they do not spoil the overall visual impression. From above you can see a barely noticeable pair - a light sensor and a peephole of the front camera.
At the top end of the right side is the usual button on / lock the screen, and next to the microphone hole. The designers correctly positioned the key: if you work with the Asus MeMO Pad FHD 10 tablet in a horizontal position, the button is exactly under the index finger of your left hand.
On the right side is the volume rocker and the usual "minijack" 3.5 mm. The left side is occupied by micro-HDMI interfaces, micro-USB and a slot for external memory cards (micro-SDHC).
The back of the tablet received a matte rubberized plastic, as well as a small ornament for beauty and ergonomics. Users in their reviews on the Asus MeMO Pad FHD 10 (32Gb / 16GB) thanked the designers more than once for such a practical cover: it does not collect fingerprints, and the device itself does not strive to constantly slip out of hand.
The speakers are located on the sides of the device, on the back of it, and on the top center is the rear camera. As for the sound quality, there are no questions here: we have an excellent volume, where the maximum indicator does not fall into cacophony, as often happens in other large tablets. Despite the pleasant sound, many users in their reviews complain about the location of the speakers. If you work with the gadget in a horizontal position, before the grille is simply closed by hand, and the output sound is somewhat blurred.
There are practically no complaints to the assembly itself. The only thing that users sometimes complain about is the middle part of the back cover: when you press it hard, it flexes noticeably. Here, most likely, the problem is not even in the quality of the assembly, but in the design features, that is, there is simply free space under the lid, which is why such deflections occur.
No backlash, squeaks or crunches in Asus MeMO Pad 10 FHD were noted: all the details fit tightly to each other and securely fastened. On sale you can find three types of colors - black, white and pink.The latter is much less common, so lovers of a purely girlish scale will have to make some effort to find the right model.
If you look at the sizes of competing analogs, then you can call Asus MeMO Pad 10 FHD a typical 10-inch representative. The gadget has the following dimensions: 265x182x9.5 mm with a weight of 580 grams.
For comparison, the same third "Galaxy Tab" from "Samsung" has 243 x 176 x 8 mm and 512 grams in weight, and "Media Pad" from Huawei - 258 x 176 x 9 mm and 580 grams.
The device fits well in the hands, but holding it for too long is problematic. Muscles begin to tire after ten to fifteen minutes of use. Therefore, the best option of operation is either artificial or natural (belly, knees) stand. This is the trouble of all ten-inch tablets, so this moment cannot be called a critical minus (they knew what they were buying).
The 10-inch display of the Asus MeMO Pad FHD 10 provides a resolution of 1920 by 1200 pixels. The screen is built on an IPS-matrix and has a protective glass and oleophobic coating with automatic brightness control.
Judging by the reviews of users, the capabilities of the matrix left them mostly positive impressions: a good level of contrast, a clear and understandable picture, natural color reproduction and excellent viewing angles,Allowing you to easily look through a photo or watch a video in the company of one or two like-minded people. Add here an oleophobic coating and get quite a sensible display for everyday use: Network, mail, social groups, books, photos, videos and games.
The only downside is if you decide to work with the Asus MeMO Pad 10 FHD on a bright sunny day. Under direct rays of light, the screen completely blind, that is, you get a regular mirror together with the tablet, so it’s best to control the gadget in a shade or a room - there it will fully reveal itself.
Asus MeMO Pad 10 FHD runs on the Android operating system version 4.2.x. The brand added some of its additions to the firmware, but without some critical changes to the platform itself. Here, apparently, negative feedback from users to other gadgets of the manufacturer played a significant role, where Asus almost completely shoveled the entire OS and added a lot of its “chips” that far from everyone liked.
Here, the brand did not touch the main functionality of the platform, but only limited to small, but very interesting innovations.The latter, by the way, do not affect the interface as a whole, and can be easily disabled, for which a special thank you.
The tablet works on the Atom chipset of the Z2560 series from Intel. For processing streaming data is a dual-core processor with a clock frequency of 1.6 GHz, and the graphic component rests on the shoulders of the PowerVR accelerator SGX 544MP series.
RAM in the amount of 2 GB is enough to run modern applications, as well as the amount of internal storage - 32 GB, where the user is available for personal needs of the order of 25 GB. If you do not want to overpay for the version with a large capacity, then you can take a more modest version - Asus MeMO Pad FHD 10 16Gb. In any case, the volume of the internal drive can be increased with the help of external SD cards up to 64 GB.
A set of chipsets is quite impressive for the tablet, so it copes with the daily tasks of the gadget 100%. Any delays or subsidence of the interface while surfing the net or watching videos were not noted by users in their reviews.
The model also does an excellent job with heavier software, in particular, with games. There were no freezes, lags or losses of the FPS.The only thing worth warning is that if you properly load the device with background applications like antiviruses and dynamic desktops, problems with a smooth display can start, therefore, as they say, it's better without fanaticism.
The device is equipped with a Wi-Fi module and quietly supports the signal at 2.4 and 5 GHz. In addition to the usual functionality, the “Direct” and “MiraKast” modes are available to the user - a trifle, but pleasant.
Module "Bluetooth" of the third version works as it should and supports all the profiles popular for it, including the most fastidious - A2DP. GLONASS and GPS also work well and start within two minutes in the “cold” mode. Not as fast as other competing models, but this indicator can not be called critical for such a plan.
The tablet received a pair of cameras - a 1.2 MP front camera and a 5 MP rear camera. Naturally, there is no reason to speak about high-quality images with such modest indicators. Nevertheless, the photos on the output are quite decent, at least in the main camera.
The front eye is more or less enough to communicate on video messengers and making avatars, and everything else, alas, is not for him. The main camera shoots video at a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels.On the stream there are often artifacts, “snow” and other noises peculiar to mediocre matrices.
The battery capacity of the Asus MeMO Pad FHD 10 is within 6900 mAh, which is very good for a device of this kind. The manufacturer promises up to 10 hours of viewing video in high resolution, but this data is not entirely accurate. Consider the most popular modes of operation.
When reading books with a brightness of 30% of the device, it lasts about 12 hours. If the “reader” is somehow serious and visualizes the data in a graphical, rather than text-based environment, the figure drops to 4-5 hours. Video stream in high resolution with maximum brightness discharges the battery in six hours. The saturation of the screen diminished to almost the minimum indicator and the shutdown of all background programs (mode “On the plane”) just leads us to the figure specified by the manufacturer - 10 hours.
Daily use of the tablet with a brightness of 40-50% and about a couple of hours per day of screen activity allows you to stretch the battery life up to 5-6 days without recharging. Also worth noting is the excellent economy of the device in standby mode: during idle time, energy is almost not consumed.If you want to save a few tens of minutes for greater autonomy, then you can conjure with the settings in a special corporate application from Asus, which is responsible for energy saving.
In its segment, the model has relatively many competitors, but the most formidable opponents of our respondent are MediaPad from Huawei, Iconia Tab from Aiser and the fourth iPad from Apple. The first tablet was distinguished by an aluminum case and a more affordable price tag. In stores, you can buy a model for one or two thousand cheaper versions from Asus. In addition, a slightly high-quality matrix and another type of oleophobic coating at MediaPad allow us to work more or less tolerably on a sunny day, which MeMo Pad, alas, is deprived of.
As for the “Aiser”, its Iconia Tab takes its consumer at an even lower price and a set of chipsets similar to “Asus”. The only drawbacks are the impressive dimensions and the mediocre matrix with the same small viewing angles.
The “Apple” competitor (photo above) is ahead of Asus’s model in some points, but the price for all these advantages is appropriate: the basic Aipad model costs five to six thousand more than the MeMo Pad.But the high price is justified by a stunning screen, which is not interfered with by the sunlight, an extremely high-quality aluminum case and a multitude of perfectly optimized applications for the iOS platform.
But there are also disadvantages to the venerable model: the traditional absence of at least some slots for external cards and drives, not the best aspect ratio for watching most of the videos and, of course, the price policy of the company. By and large, choosing between “Asus” and “Aypad”, you will choose not so much the tablet itself, because they are approximately equal as the operating system with which it will be more convenient for you to work, that is, “Android” or iOS.
A model with 32 GB of internal memory and support for LTE-networks can be purchased at around 15 thousand rubles. A more modest version with 16 GB is sold for three thousand cheaper. In some large chain hypermarkets you can get a good discount on the next promotion. For example, in the same “M.Video” or “Svyaznoy” sometimes this model is sold for 9 thousand rubles (16 GB).
For the money you get quite a sensible gadget. Here we have a good matrix, as well as a good picture at the exit (in the shade or indoors) with large viewing angles, excellent soundtrack, as well as high-quality assembly and excellent materials.This also includes a large number of complimentary reviews from users and positive feedback from specialists. In general, the model is an interesting and high-quality representative of its segment, so it can be recommended to anyone.
