A rare video of sailboats in Sevastopol!
Sometimes I have the opportunity to either take part myself, or to witness quite rare things happening next to me. So these two videos I was lucky to shoot. Both of them are about sailing ships sailing into Sevastopol Bay. It would seem, well, what is so rare and unusual? In recent years, what kind of sailing ships didn’t come to us: Kruzenshtern, Sedov, Mir, Nadezhda, Khersones, Pallas. Even "Amerigo Vespucci" Italian came. That is so, but there is one nuance. The fact is that in narrow places sailing ships are obliged to remove sails for safety purposes and go under the diesel engine. This is due to the large sail of these vessels. Any gust of wind can throw a sailboat on the shore, stranded or other vessel. And the most common sea disaster will happen, even if it is beautiful. Therefore, sailing ships, wanting to please Sevastopol with a view of snow-white sails over the surface of the Black Sea, set sails even before the entrance to the bay and at the entrance they had time to almost completely remove the sails. So “Sedov” and “Kruzenshtern” came to us. And only two sailing vessels, thanks to the clear and well-coordinated work of the team, taking reasonable risks, entered Sevastopol under full sail. In 2008, it was the Pallas frigate, and in 2017, its brother, the Chersonesos frigate. I already wrote that Dmitry Teslenko was on the bridge both times, as the senior officer of Pallas in 2008 and the current captain of Chersonesos, and the chief boatsman Yuri Sidorov took part in the sailing rush.
By the way, on the Day of the Fleet this Sunday, if the weather permits, “Chersonese” will again enter the bay under sail, thus taking part in the parade! So I recommend not to miss this moment.
