Platelet aggregation. What is it, how to pass the analysis, what to do in case of deviations from the norm
A specific stimulated process during which gluing, or more precisely, platelet sticking occurs, is called aggregation. It occurs in two stages. In the first stage, the platelets stick together among themselves, in the second they are attached to the walls of the vessels. Thus, these cells form a kind of cork. In medicine, it is called a blood clot. With the help of this reaction, it is possible to determine violations in the work of the cardiovascular system. A blood test that is taken for the study of platelets is prescribed in cases of reduced / increased coagulability (in the first case, bruises from minor strokes, poor wound healing, etc., and in the second, edemas), pregnancy with some complications.
Why do we need platelet aggregation for the human body?
This reaction is protective. With various damage to blood vessels, platelets are fused together, reach the diameter of the blood flow and overlap the problem area. Abnormal aggregation indicators require immediate medical attention. An increased platelet adhesion property can lead to a heart attack as well as a stroke. Reduced aggregation suggests that a minor cut will result in a large loss of blood, subsequently provoking anemia, exhaustion and so on.Platelet aggregation, the norm of which is 0–20%, is very important for the normal functioning of the body.
The procedure for taking a test for blood clotting
Before the analysis, the attending physician should conduct a specialized consultation to the patient. During the conversation, he must indicate: the purpose of blood donation, what coagulation means, dependence of treatment on the test result, how, when, under what circumstances the procedure will take place. Also at the consultation the doctor must tell about the possibility of discomfort of the patient during the delivery of the analysis. Platelet aggregation is investigated after the patient has followed a diet prepared by a specialist for 1-3 days, and 8 hours before the procedure, he refused foods that contain large amounts of fat. Also, for the reliability of the results, the patient for some time is forced to refrain from taking medicines. If this is not possible, then this should be taken into account in the study of blood clotting.
Platelet aggregation during pregnancy
During this period for women there is some likelihood of increased blood clotting. This deviation from the norm occurs in the pathology of pregnancy. The aggregation of platelets in women in the “interesting” position must be constantly monitored by a hematologist who gives the direction to pass the necessary tests. In case of an increase, in some cases of a decrease in blood clotting, the specialist prescribes medication. Doctors strongly recommend checking platelet aggregation at the planning stage of pregnancy, as this can help avoid further significant problems with the health of the mother and child.
Deviations from the norm. What to do?
If blood clotting is reduced or increased, in any case, consult an experienced specialist. He will order additional tests, will conduct a survey, examination and diagnose.Often, platelet aggregation, which does not meet the norm, is of a secondary nature. It should be borne in mind that women may decrease blood clotting during menstruation. It protects them for the time from the occurrence of blood clots. Fatal outcome may be with increased tendency to blood clotting, therefore, at the slightest suspicion of this (numbness of the extremities, edema), immediate treatment should be carried out. Ignoring the symptoms is life threatening.
What can influence not blood test result on coagulability?
If the patient did not take into account the recommendations of the attending physician before passing the test, this may lead to the incorrect prescription of treatment. As a result, the general condition of the patient will be irreparably harmed. The distortion of the results of the analysis of platelet aggregation may be the fault of the technician who conducted it. This happens when the wrong choice of inductors, stimulating the necessary process or when compound reactions interact badly with each other. Disturbed platelet aggregation occurs in people suffering from obesity, hemolysis, and tobacco smokers.
