Paul: how do you spell?

Many of us write something every day, trying to follow the rules of spelling and punctuation. But it happens that we do not know how to write a particular word correctly. At such moments it is useful to remember the rules of the Russian language. Today we will talk about how to spell "floor" with different words.

First of all, it is worth noting that those who consider “gender” as a prefix are mistaken, “gender” is the full root of the word. This root is written with a hyphen, merged or separated.

Together this root is written if there is a consonant letter after it (except for the letter “l”): half a wall, half a circle, and so on. In addition, there is a root "semi", which is always written with the words together: half light, twilight.

Consider the cases of hyphenation. The hyphen uses the given root if after it the word begins with the following letters:

  • with the letter "l": half a lemon;
  • with a vowel: half apple, half ocean;
  • with a capital letter: half of Asia, half of Moscow.

It is necessary to remember the exception: half a liter, but half a liter, half a liter.

If the “floor” is separated from the noun by definition, then everything is written separately: the floor of a tablespoon, the floor of apple juice.
