An ordinary bag of milk ... It would seem ... We buy it every day, without even really thinking about what a long and difficult path it takes before getting to the store shelf.
And meanwhile - this is a fascinating journey between the two capitals.

It all starts at the Tetra Pak factory in the Moscow Region.
Tetra Pak has long become a household name, such as Xerox or Pampers. Meanwhile, this is not a type of packaging, as many people think, but a brand. These are certain products, which differ significantly from their peers and competitors in terms of quality.
Tetra Pak is a company with a long and complex history. They have Swedish roots and are named after the revolutionary invention of the middle of the last century: packaging - a triangle. Such triangles with milk perfectly remember the older generation. In the Soviet Union, they appeared a long time ago, but, unfortunately, this created in our country a negative image of the company, which has no relation to real life.The fact is that at that time only two machines were purchased that produced such packaging. And then our craftsmen simply copied the technology, but did it poorly and the Soviet triangles always flowed. Those packages that have always flowed, were made exactly on the copied lines.
These triangles, by the way, are still being released. But already on the original lines of Tetra Pak.
Most packages have a more familiar modern format. Tetra Pak is the world leader in food packaging. In addition, the company also produces automatic packaging machines, as well as equipment for processing liquid food products and group packaging.
But at the Lobninsky plant produce packaging. Here begins the long journey package.

Modern packaging - a complex multi-layer alloy of cardboard, foil and polyethylene. Six layers of protection from the external environment and any unwanted microorganisms.
The first layer is food grade polyethylene (moisture protection), then there is a connecting layer (additional sealing), then aluminum, which protects the product from air and light, as well as odors, then again the connecting layer (product protection from contact with metal), then cardboard which gives strength and the last in this bundle food polyethylene,packaging giving tightness.

The process of printing itself resembles in appearance the usual polygraphy (unless of course you go into the details of the composition of the material).
Conventionally, it can be divided into three stages. Printing, lamination, cutting.
The colors are applied according to special layouts-stencils, which are made here, at the factory, in a special laboratory.



The color is scooped up in paint and stamped on the product on the line.
First, in the "printer" is served a roll of cardboard.
The printer itself is the size of a small room. As in the usual printing printing occurs in separate colors. The dimensions of the "cartridge" is also impressive.


And in the end it turns out already color roll.


Then he added a layer and laminated.
Then cut. The result is neat rolls and almost ready-to-use packages.

We will follow them to one of the most modern plants in the country - the Galaxy plant, which is located near St. Petersburg, in Gatchina.
This plant is one of the most modern in the country. It is not surprising that it resembles a spacecraft rather than a dairy.The safety standards in it are also among the most stringent. All visitors must change their clothes. clothes and hats, hand washing and other disinfection before entering the production premises is also mandatory.


And all this despite the fact that milk is, in fact, not to see.
All processes take place in tanks and pipes isolated from the external environment.




Those rooms that have at least minimal contact with the medium are additionally isolated. Actually it is the lack of contact with the external environment and ensures long-term storage of the product.


The fact is that milk spoils due to harmful bacteria that are always present in the environment. However, the process of ultrapasteurization (special heat treatment of milk, when the temperature rises sharply for just a few seconds and then drops sharply as well) kills all the bacteria in the milk, without affecting the nutrients and trace elements of the milk itself. In the future, in the absence of contact with the external environment, milk simply can not throw off! There are no elements that start this process. Therefore, it can be stored for a long time.

And already from the warehouse the products of the Galaxy are transported throughout the country and even abroad.
Several batches are taken from each batch for storage.They will lie at room temperature throughout their formal expiration date, so that in the event of claims, it would be possible to examine the milk from a particular consignment of goods.

And of course, milk is mandatory checked in the laboratory many times - when accepting raw milk, before bottling the finished product in packages, during bottling, and even after bottling, several randomly selected samples are also checked.


Here is a long way to pass a package of milk before you get to the store shelves and then in our refrigerators. And we in ordinary life just enjoy the taste of the product and do not even think about how everything is really difficult.
