Instructions. How to use the mobile Internet in Iran

Do not be surprised, but there are countries where the question of the mobile Internet may cause sincere surprise, and in the mobile communications store, instead of helping you set up, you only see the seller’s round eyes and hear something like “No, no, no” in Farsi ...
No one will argue that traveling with the Internet is much more convenient and efficient - here you have a map, and a quick search for attractions, and hotel reservations, and generally a lot of advantages.
In some countries, there are no problems with the purchase of a SIM card and setting up the Internet, in some countries certain difficulties may arise. Here and in Iran, not everything is simple in this respect: and you will not particularly ask the sellers, because Many do not understand English, but we do not understand Farsi, and SMS with settings is also all in Farsi.
Below is a short instruction and my experience of setting up mobile Internet in Iran.
Mobile Internet in Iran
Let's start with the fact that not everything is good in this country and with WiFi - it is in hotels, but, as a rule, only in the lobby, and the speed leaves much to be desired. In general, the mobile Internet will be very useful.
The first step is buy a SIM card. There are several operators in Iran - MTCE, TCI and TKC and Irancell (MTN).
Irancell is most common: you can buy a SIM card in almost any mobile phone store, and a supplement card can be bought at any grocery store. The connection is inexpensive and covers almost the entire country (the main cities are so accurate).
A sim card costs 200 thousand rials (about 400 rubles) and looks like this:

True, the card itself is almost forgotten by the mini-sim format, so to adapt it to modern smartphones you have to use the good old way, that is, scissors. There are no sellers for sim cards, and there has never been a spawn ...
How to do? It's simple. Carefully apply your SIM card to match the pad, firmly squeeze with your fingers and carefully cut with scissors along the contour. It's easier to do it under the size of a micro-sim. It is more difficult if you need to cut the card to the size of nano-sim, because there the whole card is like a mini-sim contact pad. In general, it is better to use smartphones with a mini-sim card size for a local card and then simply distribute the Internet using the device as a modem.

Now for the settings. Initially, when you activate a card, your account will have less than 20 thousand rials (40 rubles).
Naturally, it is impossible to use the Internet or make special calls with this money, although mobile communication in Iran is cheap.
You need to choose a convenient package of Internet traffic, replenish the account with the required amount, and then send a USSD request according to the table below (I quote it specifically, since the Irancell website is in Farsi and you need to find where to switch to the English version).
Keep in mind two points when sending USSD.
1. The tariff is not activated immediately, you will receive an SMS in reply again on Farsi, in which you need to send a number in response. Send 1 - this means that you agree to the connection package.
2. Do not purchase Prepade exclusive packages. Yes, they seem to be quite attractive at the price, but, apparently, they have some peculiarities, since in fact, activation does not occur and the Internet continues to be consumed with MBP.
For a weekly trip, I consider the 3G package from the 30-day “menu” for 130 thousand reais (260 rubles) to be optimal. Bought and forgot ...

I also bring the most necessary USSD teams.
By the way, in order to receive informational messages in English, enter the combination * 555 * 4 * 3 * 2 #. True, when activating a package of services, USSD-answers still come for some reason in Farsi, but the information about connecting the package and using up traffic is in English.

So in conclusion regarding the replenishment of the account. This can be easily done at any grocery store.
Just go to the seller and say Irancell charge. Even if he doesn’t speak English, the word Irancell is familiar to him and he will de reach a tiny scratch strip with a refill.
